I’ve been a bit quiet this past month, but for good reason. As many full-time RVers can relate, the road can be full of unexpected twists and turns—sometimes quite literally.
Recently, my family and I experienced one of those challenges firsthand. While traveling, another vehicle ran a red light and collided with our fifth wheel. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the impact left our RV likely totaled, and we found ourselves stranded 2,500 miles from our hometown without our home on wheels.
Finding Solutions
In that moment, it would have been easy to feel defeated and call it quits. But as an entrepreneur, I have had plenty of experience in problem-solving, and knew we had to find a way forward. We rented a U-Haul, loaded up our belongings (fitting everything from a 40-foot RV into a 12-foot trailer was a challenge in itself), and pressed on with our journey. Leaving our home behind was sadder than I could have imagined, we made amazing memories in that RV that we had for a short 6 months.
Despite the detour, we made it to Florida, where we were able to purchase a new RV and spend the holidays with family and friends.
Resilience and Gratitude
As we are still going through the insurance claim process, this has been difficult both mentally and financially. However, this experience has been a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience and adaptability. It’s also shown me the incredible support of the people I have in my life that have out to check in and offer help, and their kindness has meant the world to us.
Moving Forward
While this unexpected turn challenged us, it hasn’t dampened our spirits. We’re still homeschooling, working, and building towards exciting new opportunities with Fireside RV Rental.
I wanted to share this update not just to keep you in the loop but to remind you that challenges are often stepping stones to something greater. Full-time RVing and being part of the Fireside family have opened doors to experiences, adventures, and growth that we wouldn’t trade for anything.
