From Dream to Reality: Our Journey to Full-Time RV Living and Building a Business
Eight years ago, Jason and I went on our first date, and little did we know, that day would lay the foundation for the life we’re living today. We bonded over our shared dream of one day living in an RV, exploring the open road, and embracing the freedom that comes with it. Fast forward to now, we’re living that dream in our 45-foot toy hauler, running our own business, "Starting a Business Simplified," and hosting a podcast to help others find the freedom we craved.
The Start of Our Journey
Like many, our journey began with full-time jobs that funded our dream. We both worked tirelessly, knowing that the road to our dream lifestyle would require dedication and sacrifice. We weren’t just saving for any RV—we had our sights set on a toy hauler, something that would not only be our home on wheels but also accommodate our love for adventure and our four-legged family members, two cats and two dogs.
Our dream wasn’t just about living in an RV, though. We had a vision to create a business that would help medical professionals transition from their demanding careers to starting their own businesses. We wanted to share the freedom we sought with others, enabling them to design a life that aligned with their passions and values.
Facing Challenges on the Road
Our journey wasn’t without its challenges. Just as we hit the road, I was laid off from my corporate job, a remote position that had given us the flexibility to travel. Suddenly, the stability we’d counted on was gone. But in that moment of uncertainty, a new opportunity emerged. With more time on my hands, I was able to dive deep into building our business.
Jason, ever the supportive partner, went back to work while we were stationary in Colorado. He took on the role of provider, allowing me the space and time to develop "Starting a Business Simplified." It wasn’t easy building a business and launching a podcast mostly on my own, but I knew that our shared vision would pull us through.
The goal was always for Jason to eventually join me full-time, taking over podcast production and handling our marketing materials. That dream became a reality in February of this year when Jason quit his job. We headed south to Arizona, ready to fully commit to our business together.
The Reality of Working Together
Working together in our RV has been an adventure in itself. We spend all day, every day, within the same four walls, often at our computers, immersed in our work. The challenge isn’t just in the work but in finding a balance between our professional and personal lives.
There are times when I’ll mention something to Jason, only to hear him say, “Yeah, you said that earlier.” We’re constantly in each other’s company, but oddly enough, we don’t mind. We’ve learned to appreciate the quiet energy between us, the comfort of simply being around each other, even if we’re not speaking.
This lifestyle isn’t for everyone. I have a friend who can’t imagine being in an RV with her husband for weeks on end without needing time apart to reconnect. But for some reason, Jason and I thrive in this environment. In the eight years we’ve been together, we’ve never been apart for more than six days, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Looking to the Future
As we continue to grow our business and podcast, we’re already dreaming about our next adventure. In 2025, we plan to make the long journey to Alaska, where we hope to purchase property and put down roots in a place that has always called to us.
For now, though, we’re loving our life on the road, working together, and enjoying the company of our cats and dogs in our toy hauler. It’s not always easy, but it’s our dream, and we’re living it every day. And for that, we’re incredibly grateful.
